I’ve liked coffee all my life, from Arby’s Jamocha Milkshakes to coffee ice cream at the BR in Vestavia Hills that my mom and I would visit while I was a kid. I don’t recall exactly when I started drinking coffee, but cannot recall not having a coffee maker in every dorm room I ever lived in.
OHenry’s Coffee came into existence while I was away at Auburn. I always remarked that OHenry’s opened even before the TV show Friends made coffee shop sitting cool. After graduating and moving back ‘home’, there were only a few places to get specialty beans in Birmingham. It didn’t take much time to settle on OHenry’s as the best.
I probably still have some of the coffee club cards that would get stamped each time I bought fresh beans. African Classic, Tanzania Peaberry, and Costa Rica Dark were always top of the list. I finally saved enough bean stamps for a free bag of coffee. Also, I had Jamaica Blue Mountain for the first time.
I moved away from Birmingham in 2001, and have lived in some great places with many coffee options; Chapel Hill, Austin, Atlanta, a brief stint in Anchorage, and now Arkansas. Through all the places I’ve lived, I have yet to find the taste, quality and consistency of OHenry’s Coffee.
Not much has changed today. I’ve been a regular online shopper of OHenry’s for years, often corresponding by email with Mary. I received a shipment just yesterday with the notice of the 25th anniversary along with Costa Rica, Tanzania and a few others. My wife and I have learned that a Jamaica Me Crazy Latte on the weekends is tough to beat.
Congratulation on 25 years, and keep doing what you do!
