Through a special relationship, Mary and I took two of our leaders to a most unique, world-class coffee farm in Colombia; La Palma y El Tucan. Over four days we picked coffee cherries, sorted them, put them in fermentation tanks and, finally, on drying beds. The veteran pickers assigned to train us were not impressed with our speed or accuracy.
This trip allowed us access to a tiny coffee farm just up the hill from the coffee mill. It is the farm of Steven Rivas called Finca La Paraiso This year we purchased Steven’s entire crop of El Tucan coffee. We are the only coffee company in the United States to have this coffee.
Grown at 1700 meters on a steep mountainside, this coffee is very bright and crisp in the cup. Our lighter roast preserves the natural, honey-like sweetness. Look for notes of jasmine in the aroma and fruit characteristics of blackberries and peaches on the palate.
We have just 300 pounds divided over five locations. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
